Supporting KMS through COVID-19 lockdown

We’d like to thank you for your support of KMS in enabling students over the years to develop their talents and become more than they imagined. Some of the students have gone on to be music professionals, as musicians, artists, and even music education, instruments and classroom.

Kampala Music School is doing a fund-raising drive to continue to raise money to help KMS through this trying period of COVID -19 related lockdown. KMS remains committed to the training of students and has in this time moved to online teaching.

As COVID-19 continues to spread, the future has never felt so unpredictable. These are challenging times for us all, and the impact of lockdown and social distancing on Kampala Music School (KMS) is great. Our building is closed and we are unable to conduct face-to-face lessons or continue our outreach into schools. Whilst we are marketing on-line lessons the uptake has been small with <10% of students participating. Thus our income has reduced greatly yet we still have to sustain our workforce.

KMS is reaching out to supporters, new and old to work towards meeting the shortfall that KMS is experiencing at present and to ensure that KMS is still in a position to provide all services once the lockdown and other restrictions are eased. There are 10 permanent staff and 4 heads of departments, that we are looking to retain and to sustain our workforce and other running costs which have had to be reduced to an overall 50% for the coming months. Essential internet access is also costly, but essential for online lessons.

We’re reaching out to you as one of our top supporters to let you in on a special opportunity from our partner, GlobalGiving, to get donations of $100 USD and up matched on Wednesday, July 15, 2020, starting at 4 pm. EAT (2pm BST). The higher the amount, the higher the match while funds last.

In the spirit of this matching campaign, we’re making big, bold asks of our supporters – and that’s you! Can we count on you to support our work with a gift of $100 or more on Wednesday, July 15?” You could also collaborate with another person to increase your gift size and to help us both work towards a bigger matching in funds. There are $250,000 available in matching funds which are available on a first come first serve basis.

Thank you so much for your past support, and collectively, you and others have enabled so many students to realise their dreams. Do let us know if you need further information on giving on this day, and we will send out a reminder later in the week about this opportunity.
