An Evening of Celebration

In recognition of the success of the 10th Anniversary Appeal to fund a new home for Kampala Music School, an evening of celebration took place on a gloriously sunny evening in May, in the Princess Alexandra Hall at the Royal Over-Seas League. Musical entertainment of a light hearted nature was  performed by ex KMS students Ivan Kiwawa (piano) and Terrance Ayebare (baritone) accompanied by Fred Kiggundu Musoke.  Claire Hawkes (clarinet), Trustee of FKMS, also performed. Fred and Dr Julia Downing, Chair of KMS Board, both outlined their hopes and plans for the future of KMS and Sarah Taylor, BBC Radio Producer and Presenter gave an illustrated talk on her recent visit to KMS and subsequent World Service programme.

A huge thank you to all our Vice Patrons, Friends and Supporters of the 10th Anniversary Appeal who helped realise our dream and provide a new home for classical music in Kampala and many thanks to all who came to the celebration.

Give the gift of a Music Education – NEW Bursary Scheme

KMS has recently restructured its Bursary Scheme to include both a one year funding scheme as well as a Scheme that funds students over a 4 year period, ensuring that lessons continue to be paid for, instrument hire and repair costs are met, and the possibility of a career in music for a sponsored student is given. KMS is also offering Jazz Bursaries for the first time.

Contributions to the Bursary Scheme are always welcomed. Single year donations start from £300 and to give a student an opportunity to study for a musical education over 4 years, the fees are Beginner – £1,200, Intermediate – £1,800 and Advanced – £2,400

We have a long waiting list of students eager to learn.  If you can help, please get in touch with us at the Appeals Office – <>

Development Funding

Our sincere  to the Trustees of the Sylvia Adams Charitable Trust who have very kindly agreed to fund a programme of development training for Kiggundu Fred Musoke (2nd left above), Director at KMS.

Our thanks also to Ulrike Wilson who recently sponsored Francis Mutesasira (3rd right above), Head of Voice at KMS, to attend singing workshops in Manchester.

Volunteer Teachers

Volunteer teachers continue to make important contributions.

Phoebe Fullbrook has recently spent nine months at KMS, and her great enthusiasm and teaching has left inspired violinists and excellent ABRSM exam results.  More, mainly instrumental, volunteers are needed.

A special thank you

Thank you to all our friends and supporters who have donated musical instruments and music sheets to KMS over the last few months.  One supporter who spent much of her childhood in Kampala, recently donated several of her late father’s musical instruments in his memory.  Our grateful thanks also to an FKMS Friend who gave up her 80th Birthday gifts from family and friends in lieu of a donation from them to FKMS.

Be Inspired!

In August 2012, FKMS supporter George Parsons raised a staggering £3,706.90 by walking 200 miles Coast to Coast from St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay in just two weeks! George, who has written a fun account of his “bonkers way to spend two weeks” <>   <> for our website hopes it will spur others on to similar exploits for FKMS.  You can also read George’s blog (which he updated daily) at <>
